Are dates good for your skin?
Dates are a perfect source of energy and a natural treat. They are a healthy alternative to chocolate, biscuits and other sweets that can damage the skin due to the industrial sugar and dairy products they contain.
Not only are they wonderfully sweet and juicy, but they’re also high in fiber, B vitamins, potassium, iron, zinc, phosphorus, manganese, copper, calcium and magnesium. Due to their high antioxidant content, dates counteract skin aging.
Dates also contain the amino acid tryptophan, which becomes the hormone melatonin. Melatonin calms the nerves, helps with insomnia and has a relaxing effect. Tryptophan is also a precursor to the happiness hormone serotonin. Therefore dates can also bring relief from stress-related acne and make you happy all over!
Dates are alkaline like all fruits and vegetables. They are well tolerated with histamine intolerance and won’t cause any histamine-related skin problems. However, dates are very high in natural sugar and contain equal parts in fructose and glucose. That’s why when dealing with skin problems due to a fructose intolerance, I recommend to stay away from dates or to eat them only in very small amounts, according to your own personal experience.
