Is beetroot good for your skin?
Beetroot is one of the most nutrient-rich vegetables and is full of valuable antioxidants. The antioxidant betaine effectively fights free radicals that damage our skin and cause it to age. Betaine is a plant-based hydrator that protects cells from drying out and protects cell proteins from denaturation. The grounding and calming root vegetable therefore has a fantastic effect on the skin.
The iron contained in beetroot stimulates blood formation and ensures a rosy complexion. The folic acid it contains improves the moisture level of the skin and strengthens the collagen structure. Beetroot also contains silica. This is an important building material for the skin and also increases its moisture and elasticity. Regular consumption of beetroot helps keep your skin smooth and supple.
Beetroot also contains antioxidant flavonoids and beta-carotene, which boost liver function and help detoxify the liver, bile and blood. The betacyans it contains also support the detoxification of the intestines. Beetroot is also rich in fiber, which increases intestinal activity.
The skin friendly vegetable is alkaline and well tolerated by those with histamine intolerance. Beetroot is also highly recommended for those on a low-fructose diet because it is one of the vegetables that is particularly low in sugar.
However, it is high in oxalic acid, which is why people who have problems with kidney stones should not eat it. Please don’t be alarmed: your urine may turn red if you drink large amounts of beetroot juice.
